SUMMARY:The Joys & Challenges of Aging Book Club with Carrie Waller
DESCRIPTION:Bloom's book club is back. The book club\, facilitated by Carrie Waller\, focuses on the joys and challenges of aging. It meets six times over the course of one year (once every other month) and features six books covering a variety of aging-related topics. You can view the first three books in the series below.\n\n\n \n\nEach two-hour session starts with a gentle yoga practice\, transitions to a group discussion\, and closes with a short meditation. These sessions enable participants to build connections with others in the Bloom community who share similar interests.\n\n\n\nThursday\, January 18\, 2024\n\nLeft on Tenth: A Second Chance at Life: A Memoir\, by Delia Ephron\n\n \n\nAuthor Delia Ephron\, sister and writing partner of Nora Ephron\, has produced a beautiful memoir of loss and renewal. Ephron shares stories about the loss of her sister\, husband\, and her own life-threatening health challenges. At the same time\, she offers a story of hope\, new romantic love\, and the essential social support we all need to walk each other home.\n\n \n\nThursday\, March 21\, 2024\n\nThe Signal Fires\, by Dani Shapiro\n\n\n\nSignal Fires is a beautiful exploration of the connections between families and the reverberations of family secrets. The author\, Dani Shapiro\, helps readers imagine how each of the characters' lives might have gone if things had turned out differently\; and in turn\, helps readers consider the same about their own lives. Shapiro also teases out the notion that maybe time does not happen chronologically but that our life's events and memories are unfolding together - all around us\, all at once\, all the time. A thought-provoking book.\n\n \n\nThursday\, May 16th\, 2024\n\nLong Life and Other Essays\, Mary Oliver\n\n\n\nIf you enjoy Mary Oliver's poetry\, you will probably enjoy her prose. In this book\, Oliver offers "little alleluias" to the bounties of nature\, animals\, the soul\, place\, and literature. She also includes some thoughtful essays on William Wordsworth\, Nathaniel Hawthorne\, and Ralph Waldo Emerson. It's a beautiful\, inspirational\, uplifting piece of literature. \n\n \n\nRegister for an individual session or all three!\n\nCost per session: $40\, or $100 if registered for all 3\n\nBloom Member Individual Session: $35
